Moonlight Over a French Harbor is a serene and atmospheric nocturne that demonstrates Alfred Wahlberg’s mastery of light and his poetic sensibility. Under the radiance of a full moon, the harbor lies in calm stillness, its waters shimmering with soft reflections that dissolve into darkness toward the quayside buildings. The masts and rigging of moored ships rise sharply against the clouded night sky, creating a dramatic interplay between luminous moonlight and enveloping shadow. In the foreground, a small rowboat carrying four figures drifts through the reflective water, inserting a human presence without disturbing the composition’s profound tranquility.
