There is no attempt to turn him into a picturesque type. Instead, Strömberg concentrates almost entirely on his face and expression. After studying at the drawing school of the Gothenburg Museum from 1867 to 1871, she entered the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where she studied from 1872 until 1880. In 1881 she was appointed \u003cem\u003eagré\u003c\/em\u003e of the Academy, recognition of the position she had already established within Swedish artistic life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring the following decade she became closely involved with the progressive generation that challenged the conservative structures of the Academy. In 1885 Strömberg was among the artists who signed the Opponents' demands for reform, and she subsequently belonged to the newly established Konstnärsförbundet between 1886 and 1896.
