He studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm between 1874 and 1880 under Per Daniel Holm, one of the leading landscape painters and teachers of the period. His talent was recognized early, and in 1880 he was awarded the Royal Medal for the painting \u003cem data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1746\"\u003eSommarmorgon\u003c\/em\u003e.
