Born in Voskopoje, Albania, Sterjo Shkodrani migrated to the United States in 2010 at the age of 70 to be close to his daughters and grandchildren. Back in his home country, Sterjo was a well known member of the Cultural and Artistic Society. He has participated in several art exhibits, cofounded cultural societies, was a member of the Aromanian choir and assisted in historic research and documentation of his home town Voskopoja. The mountainous landscape has often been the inspiration of his art works and will always have a special spot in his heart.
Sterjo has a passion for the classics. As a young student in the Art Institute of Korca he was infatuated with the Renaissance era, but his interests extended beyond the visual arts to classical music. He learned to play the violin and the
guitar, bringing music wherever he went. To this day it is not uncommon for him to serenade his family with the characteristic songs of his home country. When he graduated from the Art institute the Communistic dictatorship in power did not allow for freedom of expression and oppressed all artists. However, he pursued his artistic career by venturing in glass art and industrial advertising. At the collapse of the Communist dictatorship, Sterjo played an important role in restoring the destroyed church Icons in many Greek orthodox churches. He jumped into the new found freedom with determination to progress his artistic career. He opened his studio and concentrated in his artistic paintings getting inspiration from the beautiful Albanian nature and the rich history of the country.
Here in the U.S. Sterjo is enjoying his time with his family and getting to know and participate in some of the artistic events in South Boston. He spends his days with his paintbrush and watercolor usually finishing a painting a day and produces only original works. None of his paintings have been turned in print. He prefers to offer his original work and is very enthusiastic to see where this new journey is going to take him.
Originals of Sterjo’s works can be viewed at his online gallery at www.ClassicArtworks.com. He can be reached by phone at 508 930 3240 or by email at
